3 Channel Video Installation
Single Channel Audio by Noah Salem
Addression (2024) is a 3-channel video installation with single-channel audio by Noah Salem. The work explores the evolution of political performance, focusing on gestures and nonverbal cues used for decades by candidates to project power, empathy, and authority. Originally initiated in 2015 as a solo performance in front of the camera, the project analyzed U.S. campaign speeches and debates, reimagining the visual language of gestures through my hands with the help of 9 women and non-binary collaborators.

Revisited nearly a decade later and shot in a television studio with broadcast news cameras, Addression incorporates a larger and more diverse group of collaborators, as well as a live performance alongside the video, blending recorded and real-time elements to examine how political personas, representation, and spectatorship are constructed and complicated. As politics and media evolve, the project will continue to expand, revisited during each presidential campaign cycle.
